Remove Atibtmon.exe File and Errors Caused by it

This article covers troubleshooting information to remove atibtmon.exe file. Steps below require a little computing changes to be undertaken. You should follow steps carefully. Or as a first step, download the ST Cleaner software that will deal with the junk inside your system.

End Process through Task Manager

Before deleting the actual file first end the process using Task Manager.

1. Press Windows Key + X.
2. Select Task Manager.
3. This opens up Task Manager. Click Details tab.
4. Right-click atibtmon.exe, select End Task.
5. Exit out of the screen.

 

Delete Original File

Go to the parent directory that contains atibtmon.exe file and delete it.

1. Double click Computer icon on your Desktop.
2. Locate the following directory:
   C:\Windows\System32\
3. Delete the file named atibtmon.exe. Just move it to Recycle Bin, do not permanently delete, in case the error still persists.

 

Remove atibtmon.exe Entry from Startups List

Turn off all startup and services programs. Remove Atibtmon.exe entry in the startup list.

1. Press Windows Key + R.
2. Type “REGEDIT”, press ENTER.
3. This opens up Registry Editor. Locate the following subkey:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Run
4. Delete all Non-Microsoft startups, including references to atibtmon.exe file.
5. Locate following subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Run
6. Refer to step # 4 above.
7. Exit out of the screen.

 

Change Power Options

Check your existing power plan. Set a power plan for maximum performance.

1. Press Windows Key + X.
2. Select Power Options.
3. This opens Power Options page in Control Panel window.
4. Now it shows active power plan. Select “High performance” plan. Sometimes, this option is hidden. Click the downward arrow inside “Show additional plans” category.
5. Click “Change plan settings” link ahead of “High performance” plan.
6. Click “Restore default settings for this plan” link, and then click Save changes button.

 

Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

There may be a case of corruption of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files. Uninstall and reinstall the tool as follows:

1. Press Windows Key + X.
2. Select Programs and Features.
3. This shows the list of all installed programs. Right-click Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package, select Uninstall.
4. Follow the removal wizard, reboot your PC.
5. Visit Microsoft Download Center, download the latest version available.

 

Revert back your PC Settings

There may be some recent changes in your computer’s settings. Revert back your PC settings with System Restore.

1. Right-click Computer icon.
2. Select Properties.
3. Click “Advanced system settings” link.
4. This opens up System Properties dialog. Click System Protection tab.
5. Click System Restore button.
6. Follow the on-screen wizard.
