The error appears due to program file conflicts and other issues. Here are guidelines to repair it. You can also try out an efficient registry cleaner tool, which will effectively look for the conflicting registry errors causing several errors in the PC.

Reinstall the Application

As the error description indicates problem persists with the program installation. Reinstalling the same would fix it.

For Windows 8.1/ 8:

  1. Press Windows Key + X, select Programs and Features.
  2. This lists out all installed programs. Right-click the program that shows a0008172.exe error, and then select Uninstall.
  3. Follow the on-screen removal wizard. Restart.
  4. Download a fresh setup online and then install the program again.

For Windows 7/ Vista:

  1. Click Start, type ‘Uninstall a program” and press ENTER.
  2. Refer to steps # 2-4 under Windows 8.1/ 8 user’s section.

Check Inter-Version Conflicts

A program designed to run on a 64-bit machine may not work on 32 bit Windows system. Remove the program and install only compatible version.

Download Missing File

a0008172.exe also appears whenever that file is missing. Download that file from the Internet and copy it to the relevant directory. Example: C:\Windows\System32. The actual directory may be displayed in the error message.

  2. Type following command:

  3. Press ENTER.

For Windows 7/ Vista:

  1. Click Start, type “CMD” in the Search Box.
  2. Right-click that keyword, select Run as administrator.
