Exclude Steam File from DEP

Go to the Steam installation directory and add all Executable Files (.exe), especially Steam.exe, to exclude from Data Execution Prevention feature. Find this option under Data Execution Prevention tab in Performance settings. Use sysdm.cpl command in Run dialog.

Exclude Steam File from Antivirus Security

In the same manner, exclude Steam client executable files from the Antivirus protection. Use the Options/ Settings dialog > Exclusions tab. The steps may vary.

End & Restart Process

First, expand the Task Manager interface by clicking “More details” option after opening it with its shortcut Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Then under Processes tab you shall find the Steam.exe entry. Right-click that entry; select “Restart” option. If that option isn’t available, choose “End task” and then manually start it- either using its Desktop shortcut or by typing full file path into the Run dialog (Windows Key + R).

Use Compatibility Troubleshooter

This wizard helps diagnose problems that prevent a program from running. Adjust Steam to run on the version you’re currently using. Choose “Troubleshoot compatibility” option from context menu. Alternatively, use the Compatibility tab in Shortcut Properties to manually adjust the settings and choose an earlier OS version.

Download Required Driver Update

Google for the following driver update. Install it through its setup wizard, or use the Device Manager > Network Adapter > Properties > Driver > Update Driver Software wizard to locate the downloaded setup file and install it on your computer.

  • Ralink – WLAN – D-Link DWA-140 RAngeBooster N USB Adapter

After completion, restart your machine.

You may also want to check the list of all installed updates. Sometimes this driver is automatically downloaded through Windows Update utility while scanning for new updates.

Delete ClientRegistry.blob

The file “ClientRegistry.blob” is located into below directory:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\

Just move the file to Recycle Bin and re-open Steam again, or simply rename it as “ClientRegistry.blob.backup”

You should also scan your Windows for registry errors using a decent registry cleaner.

Copy Missing Files

Copy all the “Source” files and folders to the “Target” locations:

Source File:

  • C:\Program Files\Steam\Config\SteamAppData.vdf

Target Directory:

  • C:\Program Files\Steam\Config\SteamAppData.vdf\SourceSDK\Bin\Config
